Pumpkin Season

Now is that time of the year when pumpkins
Fleetingly appear behind every shop window
And the hell with all gargoyles,
Demons and living dead of Halloween.

I'm fleeing
This pervading madness.
I no longer rely on anything, good or evil
For down here,
None shall be my king.

And you, infinite
Through oblivion,
My spirit and echo of my life,
You shall be,
You shall be my path.

You'll light up
My way out
Of this matrix of deceit and predation.
You shall be
My weapon of choice.

A Prayer to Saint Patrick

O Saint Patrick, come to us!
The naughty Leprechauns
Have gone totally insane
Creating havoc all over the Kingdom.
Those lawless demons
Who are challenging you
And unraveling laws,
Are scary as hell.
They got everything painted upside down,
There's no right side anymore.
Everything is at a loss,
Their might is right.

O Saint Patrick, wake up the world!
Shake the legions of sleepy heads,
Bring them out of their deep stupor
To face the Enemy.
Take the scales from their eyes
Before the warmongers,
From beyond our frontiers,
Go tickling the Bear in its lair.
May they stand
Against the Odd
And may the pull of the Light
Win them over.

Down in the Well

One lousy Christmas
For a jailed Easter,
And none of them catatonic bells
All glued to CNN,
In a mainstream coma,
Will ever ring the end of Lent.

Get your bets down,
The wheel is now going.
To hell or high heaven,
The die is cast.

Bafflegab
And iron masks,
Go astray
And hope to die.

Resist or conform
For better or for worse,
Mindfulness
Seals our fate.

Truth will mess you up.
Or set your free.
Faith or fear,
The choice is yours.

Where we sow light, we glow all!

Pharma Police

Pharma Police, arrest this man
He wears no mask, he sneezes like a lidge
He looks like a deboned cameo

Pharma Police, arrest this girl
Her killer stare does really make me shriek
And we have deemed her unhealthy

This is what you get,
This is what you get,
This is what you get,
When you mess with us

Pharma Police,
I've snitched anyone I could,
It's not enough

Pharma Police,
I've snitched anyone I could,
But we're still on the death roll

This is what you get,
This is what you get,
This is what you get,
When you mess with us

For a minute there
I ditched myself, I ditched myself
Phew, for a minute there,
I ditched myself, I ditched myself

Persephone

O rage, water and thunder
From ahigh,
Persephone is leaving us
Low and wet,
The gloomy rustle
Of shivering trees
Whirled bare
Of their blazing fleece
Of gold and brass galore
Portending
The celebrated return
Of the Queen
Of the Underworld.

Spellbound

The lunatics are in the House,
The Mad Hatter ate the mouse,
And all of them puppets on a string
Filthy greedy pigs on wings
Soulless ragdolls on a pole
Weighing their heavy toll
Down on you people.

All of them possessed,
Mesmerised, anaesthetised,
Radicalised.

Cut cut cut
Cut the rope that leads!
Bite bite bite
Bite the hand that breeds!

No fear no feed.
No pain no drain.
No lies no blinds.
No war no blight.

Hold on to love,
Love the light,
Light the hope,
Hope for light.

Remember, recover,
Reclaim.
Remind, redeem
Reinvent.
Recreate, reconnect,
Reflect.

Expose, explode,
Expel.
Blow, breathe,
Break.
The spell
That binds.
Outsmart
The masterminds.

We are the light.
We are the life.
They are nought.

Year In Year Out

Dodgy, fucked up days of yore
Under misspells — such a bore
Indecent blood
From iron to green
Earth year downing on Earth.
(Kaboom!)

From fast asleep to wide awake
The goo and the bad years at stake
Goofed the head-start
Laughed its arse off — damn it!
(Heehee!)

Stolen, ripped-off — years of gunk,
Bogged down like gulls in the junk,
Gushing out in agony.
(Waaaaaa!)

Feary, stressful years — inconsiderate
Foully, fishy, smell a rate
Mark-off year ticking off
Takes jabs and shots
By hook or by crook — the scumbag!
(Tallyho!)

Mug years for all the muggers
Riff-raff, buggers,
Mishap years of crap.
Gosh! New Year's a bleeder
Gash cracked open and cured
Undeferred.
(Ouch!)

Sweet year to the ear
Unchains the dark
(No more chickening out)
Saves us from the Night years.
(Boo!)

“Pass it on” says the Fearless year
To the Merry year.
“Long live life
All year long!”
(Cheers!)

NOTE: This is more a variation than an accurate translation of the original in French, as you can imagine all these puns being literally untranslatable (and the other way round). But I certainly do enjoy a good challenge sometimes.

Rebirthing

Today I'm passing away
Over my fears
And hard feelings,
Bogged down in the foundation
Of the self-created dramas
Of my mindscape.

One by one,
I let them go,
No resentment
One by one,
I watch them die,
No grief.

Today I'm reborn
From my dirty waters
And misguided fancies.
Relieved from my burdens,
Effortlessly, remorselessly,
I'm taking off.

Love No Evil

See how comfy he is
In times of trouble,
Woes to say,
Words to curse he has,
He, Evil.

Set up as a phallocracy,
Ruled by a demonocracy,
Pedantic boaster,
Taunting smug he is,
He, Evil.

Deliberately sickening,
Feasting on our ups and downs,
Incredibly heady,
On our fears he feeds,
He, Evil.

Both sneaky and sly,
Snide and deceptive,
So convinced of his inerrancy,
Believe himself invincible he does,
He, Evil.

Worshipped today
By all the disenchanted
He's been deceiving,
Ultimately deposed he'll be,
He, Evil.

Good on him,
He'll lose face,
And so bad the hurt,
Bugger off he will,
He, Evil.

Apathy Child

Wild-eyed,
Mind-controlled,
Pill-addicted
Apathy child
Of the Ark of the Inconvenant,
Marianne, daughter of Joan
Of the Cavalry,
Below the Arch
Of her mother
Burnt to ashes,
Silently lays
Her bruising blue,
Shroud white,
Blood red
Wreath.

Solstice Blues

On this, the longest
Day of the year,
Sprawled
On my deckchair,
At great length
And all along,
Forlorn,
And for so long,
I've been longing
For this piece of
Envisioned,
Well-deserved
Happiness
To come
And that in time will,
At long last,
Come true —
And to last
In my reality.

Serial Killers

Suddenly
Out of the blue
There it is
Heady,
Turbulent, delusive
All wrapped up in smooth
Lavish glamour,
The lame remainder
Of some fruitless
Meditating effort
To drive it home
And lose myself
On the winding road
Of some criminal thought
Not incestuous though,
Yet most certainly flawed.
Over righteous
And too respectful
Of the choice to be
Doubtless and doubtfree
Thus presuming
I'm perpetuating
The mighty fancy
Of some loving dream.
Ultimately,
The voice went silent;
So much love had killed it.

About this piece

  • The title is kind of elusive as it refers to the original text written solely with adjectives ending in “tueuse” (literally -tuous) which sounds and spells like “killer” in feminine gender in French. Although all puns are obviously untranslatable, I decided to give my best rendition of it so here is.

Moon Shadows

Caw crow
That handsome body
On the cross
Cross my heart
Crossed swords
Uncloaking
Some strange
Unwise
Fallen angel
Figures crossing
Across the chasm
Of some epic
Winged dream
Torn down
By the sharp
Pointy thorns
Of some epiphanic
Dawn

Affair of the Heart

The heartbreaker's
Strong heart
Of stone sank
At the sight
Of his sweetheart,
Pretty as the morning,
A heart-shaped
Disheartening
Smile on her lips.

Struck at the heart,
The strong and heavy-hearted
Had to know for sure
And pour his heart
To the one who
Made his heart
Both warm and cold.

Flags

Obscene
Fluttering flags,
Overhung,
Time-worn
Glowing rags
The Reaper wears
On his scythe.

Death for death,
Blood for blood,
Top of the game,
Wisdom slain,
At a worse time
Halted.

Wait ! Hold on
Another second...
No, you don't ! Hurry up !
Let's get out of here
Before our survival
Catches wind.

The Final Strategy

Problem-Reaction-Solution:
There's fear in your eyes,
It's taking hold of all your senses,
Creating confusion,
Activating the deception,
Rising suspicion,
Gnawing at your heart,
Arousing strong feelings.

Fear is a poison,
Rising to obsession.
Terror
Makes no sense at all.
Panic attacks,
Post-traumatic stress:
The Controllers' ultimate weapon,
The Dementors' final strategy.

Problem-Reaction-Solution:
There is no mistake,
Do not ask any questions.
Get horrified,
Activate the disconnection,
Get numb,
Embrace the illusion,
Here and there,
Completing the destruction.

Fear is a poison,
Rising to obsession.
Terror
Makes no sense at all.
Panic attacks,
Post-traumatic stress:
The Controllers' ultimate weapon,
The Dementors' final strategy.

Words

Loud flawed words
Dragged and dropped
Blended passes
To miscast spelling

Unfinished misnomers
Foul swear words
Poison talk
Spelt gossip

Snarky rattling
Of dire consequences
For the tear-sodden hearted
Crushed in slow motion

Freeze-framed chillers
Worryworth words
Born out of anxiety
Left out on the tip of tongues

Keywords kept under hats
To seal lips off
Wherever abuse
Takes the lie of the truth

May the unspoken
Become the spoken word
Where consenting silence
Is death foretold

Flyweight

I am a fly,
A lightweight,
Sideliner forever,
Or new counter?

Dumping heavy,
Bearing my weight,
Balancing imbalances,
Unburdening my conscience.

Easily affected,
The slightest skirmish,
Quickly weighs me down,
Still nothing calms me down.

Shut my trap,
Fly idly,
Or strike home,
Get on the raw?

I am a light-traveller,
A fly in the ointment,
A fuss-maker,
A drama queen.

Past Imperfect

Helluva hullabaloo
(Olla bolla domino)
So much chaos in the classroom
(Okay hockey)
Just having a fit
(Catch a tiger by the toe)
Detention galore
(If he hollers let him go)
A hundred lines on the board
(And a hundred tables underneath)

Weary teasy peasy
(The Ace of Spades and Hearts)
Summons the schoolmistress
(Foolish Miss Happ)
Rings a bell to the headmaster
(Now is the bitching hour)

High-flying pieces of writing
(This close but undisclosed)
All school reports zeroed out
(Quarters to none)
Outpointing her dance cap
(Right under his big dunce nose)
All flawed ways condoned
(How unapologetic)

Haywire goes the uncool master
(Eeny, meeny, miny, moe)
Off the school ground
(He'll go east, he'll go west)
Lost his mind
(He'll go to the crow's nest)
But where is mine?

NOTE: This is more a story telling variation than an accurate translation of the original in French, as you can imagine all these puns being literally untranslatable (and the other way round). But I certainly do enjoy a good challenge sometimes. For more fun, read it aloud!

Sing for Absolution

Down from the July Column and with both feet,
The winged Genius of Liberty
Took the leap.
A fallen angel crashed to the crowd,
His rights and faith
All forfeited
Up on the cold streets.

And what did the people do to prevent that?
Abused, disenchanted,
They looked away
In dismay,
Staring at the bloody false flags
Waving in the wind.

Stirred up by fate,
To the beat of drums,
Sick at heart,
They began
Their war chant:

Soulless citizens,
Embrace the delusion,
Now, now!
Spill the sinful blood,
Make it flow!
