Witches Burn

Satanic to some, pagan to others, commercial to most, the celebration of Halloween leaves no one indifferent. If only because it has become impossible to ignore. Especially in towns and cities, where local businesses and residents alike participate in these increasingly macabre displays (as seen in my neighbourhood: a door splattered with ultra-realistic fake blood). Shop windows and house facades are adorned with cobwebs, ghosts, bats, and grimacing pumpkins. Witches and demons are out and about, though next month they'll make way for angels, Father Christmases, and nativity figurines. Same figures, different costumes to honour the polarities.“As above, so below; and as below, so above.”

This song is thus more than perfect for the occasion. Spot on for the mood, right on the nerve. For rather than resorting to cheap thrills through clichés and theatrical ‘boos’, it instead opens a window onto a brutal reality that neither faith nor hypocritical allegiance—whether to the blessed or the cursed, the ascended or the fallen—can possibly cover up. I must therefore warn you about the violent and explicit nature of these lyrics. Not for the faint-hearted, of course. But you'll get your turn anyway. For we are all fuel for the gods or the demons.

Witches Burn

Welcome back to the days of old
Where the men are men and the women are sold
Unwilling sacrifice, I'll fuck you for a price
They kill 'em young so they never get old

They lock the doors and pull down the shades
After the dark they are always afraid
But I go out at night, I won't apologize
There's a price I'll pay

For this I'll burn
For this I'll burn
One thing I've learned, you'll get your turn
All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn

Don't know much about a pagan god
If you think you're better than me, I know you're not
But I'll do what you say, I'm learning to obey
Down on my knees when you call me a dog

'Til I get close enough for a blade
To stick it in, then I'll spit on your grave
I'm smiling all the while, you won't be at the trial
But there's a price I'll pay

For this I'll burn
For this I'll burn
One thing I've learned, you'll get your turn
All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn

Down and down and down we go
Scatter the ashes in the shape of the soul
The dark will have its day
But there's a price I'll pay

For this I'll burn
For this I'll burn
One thing I've learned, you'll get your turn
All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn

All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn
All witches burn
